Darby Kane – The Replacement Wife

I’m happy to say that today I am on the blog tour for The Replacement wife by Darby Kane for Random Things Tours and would like to thank Anne Cater and Harper 360 for the copy of the book.

The #1 International bestselling author of Pretty Little Wife returns with another thrilling domestic suspense novel that asks, how many wives and girlfriends need to disappear before your family notices?

Elisa Wright is a mom and wife, living a nice, quiet life in a nice, quiet town. She’s also convinced her brother-in-law is a murderer. Josh has one dead wife and one missing fiancée, and though he grieved for them he starts dating someone new. Elisa fears for that woman’s safety, and she desperately wants to know what happened to her friend, Josh’s missing fiancée.

Searching for clues means investigating her own family. And she doesn’t like what she finds. A laptop filled with incriminating information. Other women.

But when Elisa becomes friends with Josh’s new girlfriend and starts to question things she thinks are true, Elisa wonders if the memories of a horrible incident a year ago have finally pushed her over the edge and Josh is really innocent. With so much at stake, Elisa fights off panic attacks and a strange illness.

Is it a breakdown or something more?

The race is on to get to the truth before another disappearance because there’s a killer in the family…or is there?

Darby Kane is an author. I haven’t had the pleasure of coming across until this invite popped in my email. The cover and synopsis made me desperate to read it.

A psychological crime thriller that is narrated by Elisa Wright, a wife and mother who suspects her brother-in-law, is a killer. His first wife died in a mysterious fall, which was ruled an accident at the time.

Now Elisa’s good friend, Josh’s girlfriend, is missing. Elisa has discovered incriminating evidence hidden in Josh’s house, which makes her think that her friend hasn’t just left of her own accord. Elisa’s suspicions are heightened because Josh is even dating again; she decides to attempt to uncover exactly what he is hiding from everyone.

I always enjoy a story with an unreliable narrator; it keeps me  guessing. Elisa is that unreliable narrator. We discover she is dealing with the fallout of a terrible event. This made me doubt her constantly, where her suspicions just all in her head? Could Josh really be a killer? This alone kept me on my toes.

Darby Kane has created characters that are well written, although, don’t expect many likeable characters in this story. We have an unreliable narrator in Elisa and  plenty of characters you don’t trust either. A great basis for a multi layered and chilling thriller.

The Replacement Wife is a great thriller that definitely brings the thrills. I was kept on the edge of my seat for most of the book. It is certainly an unpredictable story that has excitement that quickly turns into tension laced with the feeling of something big looming up. This is how I like my books with enough of an edge to have me not wanting to put it down. This book was worth every minute I spent consumed by it .

Overall, a tightly written, clever plot that is one of the most twisted stories I have read lately. An excellent choice for any domestic noir fans out there.
