A.J Hill -Dead Drift

I am happy to say I have joined the tour for Dead Drift by Andy Hill on behalf of ZooLoo’s Book Tours. Today, I am posting an extract so everyone can see what a great book it is!

Book Extract

DI Sparkes was just picking up his jacket from by his desk, when Geoff Cooke summoned him to his office.
‘If I find out that you had anything to do with supplying him with information from inside this investigation, you’ll be finding yourself posted to the quietest station I can find in the arse end of nowhere. Have I made myself clear, DI Sparkes?’
‘Sir, with respect, I’ve had nothing to do with what Jack found out.’
‘Well, you would say that,’ Cooke replied. ‘Now get over to that river keepers house and get a statement from him.’
Once the DI had left the office, Cooke turned to DCI Richardson.
‘Don’t give him anything important to do.’
‘You know that’s going to be difficult, considering how thinly we’re spread, Boss.’
‘Just do as I say. I don’t want Jack Lunn anywhere near this case,’ Cooke demanded. ‘Do you understand?’
‘But he knows a lot of people and as a member of the New Forest I.A G., we should be using
him.’
‘You don’t know Jack Lunn like I do,’ Cooke said. ‘He has a knack for poking his nose where it’s not wanted and claiming all the glory.’
‘Surely Chief Superintendent Blacklock will want some input on this?’ Richardson asked.
‘Chief Superintendent Blacklock has a blind spot where Lunn is concerned. She was always behind him when he was in the job. Pushing him forwards, getting him onto cases, helping him get promotion.’
‘But he’s not in the job anymore,’ Richardson replied.
‘So, he’s not to be included in anything to do with this murder and that’s my last word on the matter. Now get someone onto the arrest files of the poacher and let’s see what they say about dogs. If what Lunn said is right, then we need to have a chat with Max Lamont.’
‘What about the list that Lunn’s just given us?’ Richardson asked.
‘Put them with one of the DC’s. But get the son in first, he’s who we need to speak to next. Inheriting all that money, now there’s a motive.’
Richardson nodded agreement and closed the Superintendent’s door behind him.

How good does it sound? Well, the synopsis is here if you would like to discover more about Dead Drift. You can always check out the other bloggers on the tour.

Synopsis

Former Detective Inspector Jack Lunn is enjoying the quiet life. Twenty years on from being medically retired from the job with Hampshire Police, he’s earned his quiet routine of long walks in the New Forest and regular visits from him and his partner’s four children.
But Jack’s peace is shattered when he discovers the body of a friend and local landowner while on a fishing trip. Drawn into the investigation, Jack comes face to face with an old colleague, now his ex-wife’s new husband, and the police investigation machine he thought he had left behind.
As family secrets are exposed and a reporter takes an interest, Jack and his partner’s eldest daughter Gemma set to work to unravel who killed Jack’s friend.
Gemma, a former military intelligence officer, is not afraid to take matters into her own hands to get the answers they seek. But, as the body count rises, can she and Jack unravel the mystery before it’s too late, or will Jack’s life be sacrificed as just so much dead drift?

Crime writer, Neil Broadfoot said, ‘Dead Drift is a taut, twisting crime novel from Andy Hill. With strong characters, tight plotting and a steadying ratcheting up of tension. This is a calling card from a writer who is destined to become a household name.’
