I’m am part of the blog blitz for The Girl Of Lost Petals And Possibilities by Laura Briggs. Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and the author for my copy of the book to take part.
On holiday in Egypt with Sidney and Dean, young writer Maisie is—in her mind—on top of the world. Her long-labored manuscript is finally going to be published, she and Sidney are deeply in love, and the future looks bright on every level.
In one moment, however, it all changes. Tragedy leads to overwhelming loss that Maisie can’t even begin to process. As the world itself turns upside down, there’s no solace for Maisie from the growing sense that her wonderful future is finished.
No dream about to come true. No certainties of new chances in life.
Even if the first two did not break her, the last one is determined to. It’s up to Maisie to find her strength and determination to find a new future, even if—unthinkably—it may be nothing like the one she dreamed of.
This is the beginning of a new series that does feature characters from a previous story called A Little Hotel In Cornwall. I was so lucky to have read this book but The Girl Of Lost Petals And Possibilities is able to be read as a standalone too.
I was looking forward to seeing what was happening with maisie and her life. As I read the blurb I realises it wasn’t going to be sunshine and roses so braced myself to start reading.
It’s a novel full of every emotion. I was invested in Maisie and at first, so glad to see her and Sidney together and in love. Her writing is finally being recognised, she couldn’t have asked for more. It only takes a moment for everything to fall apart around her. The future, that yesterday was shining bright is now lying in tatters at her feet. Maisie has to now find a way to find her way back into a life that will be so different from the one she expected. But can she?
This book tore my heart right out of my body and stamped on it…hard! I was so invested in maisie from the previous book I read, so when everything fell apart I was absolutely as gutted as she was. It is a story of resilience, and boy, Maisie has it. I was rooting for her to get through this.
Yes it is a sad read and even more intense for me as I felt like I knew Maisie and Sidney. It is also about finding the strength to get back up and forging a new path in life, even if it’s not what you expected or wanted.
My third Laura Briggs and second Maisie book, I so enjoy her writing. To return to Maisie’s story, even through the sadness, made me feel like I was part of the story, Sat by her side as these events took place. She feels so real, as do Laura Brigg’s other characters. I did like how there was hope too, that made me feel like Maisie could move forward.
This is going to be a fabulous series, I know it. The Girl Of Lost Petals And Possibilities gets it of to a great start! A rollercoaster of an emotional read.
