Maria Hoey – Bad Sweet Things

A Spellbound Books published book Bad Sweet Things by Maria Hoey is a fast-paced, intense thrilling read that had me in suspense all the way. Maria Hoey is a new author to me, and I hope there is another DS Tina Bassett book on the way at some point in the future. I loved this copper!

Keep your enemies close
But keep your friends closer…
Six women:

Each receive a copy of an old school group photo, in which their own face has been savagely scratched out.
Within a week, two of the women are dead.

Detective Sergeant Tina Bassett:

Known to colleagues as the Hound, she believes both women were murdered by the same person and that someone is intent on killing off the class of 98,

one by one ..

As the death toll rises , DS Bassett finds herself in a desperate race against time, as she delves deeper into the past to help uncover the catalyst to the unfolding rampage in the present.
Will she succeed in stopping a killer hell bent on having their revenge ?

Or will the class of 98 finally pay their price …

Bad Sweet Things is the new gripping Irish Crime thriller from Maria Hoey, perfect for fans of Jane Casey , Claire McGowan and Claire Allan.

A well written crime thriller that wasted no time in grabbing my attention and I have to say it kept it all the way through. I read this in a day… I was so curious to see how everything connected together.

DS Tina Bassett is a fiesty woman and one who works with her gut instinct mainly, and it has worked well. She finds herself on an investigation alongside JP, her colleague, and someone she has quite a lot of chemistry with. Tina believes their investigation into the deaths of two women is a murder enquiry after six women, former school mates, received a copy of an old school picture with each of their faces scratched out, and then two are found dead. She also thinks the rest of the women are in danger.

I thought the fact we hear from the killer as the story unfolds adds another angle to this story as the reader is witness to information that the police don’t have at that moment and this gives us extra insight into this killer…but as the body count rises with DS Barrett discover who it is before there are more murders?

Maria Hoey has created an intriguing, twisty thriller that is full of red herrings and twists. This succeeded in making me still making wrong guesses right to the end almost. I really didn’t know why these women were being picked off, and I needed to know as soon as I could!
