Linda O’Byrne – Catherine: The Cousins of Pemberley Book 2

I am so happy to say I am on the Spellbound’s International Womens Day Festival. My first book stop is for Linda O’Byrne’s second book in The Cousins of Pemberley Book 2, Christine. Massive thanks to Zoe of ZooLoo’s Book Tours and Spellbound Books for my copy of the book to take part in this special tour.

Many years have passed since the dramatic events of Pride and Prejudice. In The Cousins of Pemberley series we follow a new generation of heroines – cousins with lives as different and interesting as those enjoyed by their mothers.

Catherine

Catherine Collins, a very ordinary young woman – plain, quiet, often over-looked but possessing a reputation for having great common-sense.
Or so her distant cousin Elizabeth Darcy believes and so recommends her as governess for little Matilda Courtney.

Catherine travels to Northumberland, full of good intentions to do her best and be a credit to the family.

But, appearances and reputations can be deceptive – Robert and Martin Courtney will soon learn exactly what type of girl Elizabeth has sent them.

This is the second book I have read by this author and the second book in a series I am really loving. I was happy to be back with the characters from the first book, and I was excited to meet the new characters too.

Catherine is Elizabeth Darcy’s distant cousin, and she has arranged for Catherine to become governess to Matilda Courtney, a little girl who hasn’t spoken since her mother died. Richard Courtney, Matildas father, is to be remarried, but we see Catherine’s attraction to him growing, although it is something that can never be.

Catherine is definitely not a pushover, and that is refreshing to see in the age the book is set. I always love a strong woman! I loved little Matilda; she has been through so much. The characters are still as good as the first book, and Linda O’Byrne has written another fabulous book. Her descriptions of the setting brought the pictures to my minds eye.

The way the book reaches its conclusion is not by way of the easy ‘road’. Catherine’s journey is full of twists and turns that kept me reading this book until I reached the end. I couldn’t put it down before I found out what happened.

A book that perfectly reflects the age it is set in. I enjoyed this book as much as the first in the series, and I am definitely looking forward to the next book to be published.
