Today it’s the turn of the sequel to The Journey, The Journey Back by Conrad Jones. Thanks to Zooloo’s Book Tours and Red Dragon Books for the ARC of this book.

The Journey Back is the blistering sequel to The Journey. Kalu is a doctor, who escaped an extremist revolution in Nigeria. He tried to get his family across the Sahara to look for passage to the safety of Europe but they were duped by ruthless people traffickers and his wife and two daughters were lost at sea. Fast forward twenty-years and his daughter, Kissie is in Ukraine when Russian tanks cross the border and his family are in terrible danger again.

The sequel to The Journey and, what a sequel! I can’t decide which book I like the best. This is on some ways better than the first, but then The Journey is so powerful I can quite dismiss it as the vest. Well, I will have to say they are both such great books!

In The Journey back we catch up with Kalu and all his family members. The story is woven together from the main characters perspectives so we get to see how they are all doing. It moves from London, to Ukraine and so much further than that.

This is another story that just wows you when the storyline develops. The people are so real and the danger that pours of the pages is as real as the desperation of humans just trying to be free. Conrad Jones writes with such heart. His attention to details and not shying away from the horror that this family experience. Again I was totally wrapped up in this family and what happens along the way.

Packed with action all the way I was trying not to breathe at certain points, it got that tense and atmospheric. Again the issues raised are so important to today’s world, everything from Class A Drugs to the Boko Haram. My heart broke a little bit more as I read this.

The action packed, emotional story even brings a twisty, rollecoaster of a conclusion. All I can say is I do hope to see another book, it is so worthy of a third.

Conrad Jones

Conrad Jones spent 12 years working for the biggest quick service restaurant brand in the world. On March 20th 1993 the IRA terrorist organization bombed the shopping center outside the restaurant he was managing that day. The experience fueled an interest in the root causes of extremist terrorists and the reasoning why its perpetrators feel justified in taking innocent lives. That incident sparked the story of ‘Soft Target’.
