Gail Meath – Black Jack

Welcome, fellow bookworms! I’m part of the book tour for Black Jack by Gail Meath. Thanks to ZooLoo’s Book Tours and Gail Meath for the copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

A lifetime game of solitaire turns into a vicious family feud.

New York City 1923

Back in the city after a nightmare vacation, PI Jax Diamond and his courageous canine partner, Ace, just can’t catch a break when three quick and easy cases explode into a massive mess of unrelated major crimes with victims, dead and alive, piling up.

Laura Graystone’s career soars as she rehearses for her new Broadway musical. Yet, she senses something’s amiss when Jax spends more time with a new buddy aboard a steamboat than solving crimes. With the help of their friends and a mysterious stranger, Laura and Ace set out to get to the bottom of it.

It’s a whirlwind of twists and turns as Jax discovers there is far more to a family than just blood relatives. And who knows? They may just solve the biggest case of his life.

Book number five in the PI Jax Diamond Mysteries series. Black Jack is a fabulous read. Jax and Ace, his partner (an Alsation dog for those not in the know), are up to their ears in multiple cases, ones which Jax assumes are going to be simple to solve. Gail Meath is an author whose books I have loved since the very first Jax Diamond book. I was really looking forward to revisiting them all for this review.

As I said, Jax assumes his cases will be simple to solve. Well, I don’t think so! Not this time. Laura decides that she is going to lead a hand and do some digging, along with some friends and Ace added in.

As I always find with this author, the book goes along at a great pace. The fact that I find this series such a fun read makes it such a pleasure to be back with Jax, Ace, and Laura. I felt like I was catching up with everyone while reading Black Jack. The twists and turns were so well placed, and it was great seeing Jax finally hoping for the answers he needed from his investigation. This is a story that just whizzes by, and before I knew it, it was time to leave the characters again. It’s a mystery series that’s fun and intriguing, too.

The prequel, Two of a Kind, is FREE at the moment if you want to see how it all began! I know I do, so I’m going to get it also!
